Which gardens should I choose for a first visit to Seoul Forest?
Compare three different ideas of a public garden: Henri Bava's planting-led woodland, Lee Nam-jin's Garden of Waiting, and the usable furniture of Horizon of 30.5 Meters. Choose two for their contrast, then use the English QR guide on site.
For planting and movement: Fluid Woodland Understory Garden
Henri Bava of Agence Ter places the emphasis below the tree canopy. The official project description identifies circular planting groups, reflecting water and routes passing between them, with ferns, shrubs and broad-leaved perennials providing different textures. Save its Korean name, 흐르는 숲아래 정원, to match the sign rather than relying on an earlier translated title.
Our reason to choose this garden is the relationship between planting and movement. The question is not simply which flowers are in bloom: it is how the spaces between planted circles allow several ways through. Look from the marked paths at what is below eye level as well as at the trees. A plant-led visit makes this the stronger starting point of our three selections.

For everyday city life: Garden of Waiting
Lee Nam-jin's 기다림의 정원 takes waiting in Seongsu's streets as its subject. The organizer describes seated figures called Gidari and people sharing a place while experiencing time differently. That makes it a useful contrast with Bava's emphasis on moving through planting.
Read the figures as an invitation to consider who gets to pause in a busy city, rather than treating them only as photo props. If your interest is Seoul's everyday social spaces, pair this garden with Bava's: one turns movement into a landscape question, the other makes waiting its theme. This comparison is our interpretation of the two published design statements, not a claim about visitors' actual behavior.

For practical public design: Horizon of 30.5 Meters
Gyeonggi-do's garden, 30.5m의 수평선, was designed by Song Jae-an and Kim Geon-woo. Its project page describes a continuous structure that becomes platforms, recliners and standing tables as the ground level changes. Circular planting areas protect existing mature trees. Here, the central idea is what a small piece of public space lets people do, rather than an ornamental picture of tradition.
Pair it with Garden of Waiting if you are interested in how a city accommodates people: compare a story about pausing with furniture that gives a pause different physical forms. Pair it with Bava's garden if landscape design is the priority: compare circulation shaped by planting with circulation organized around a usable structure. These are alternative pairs, not a measured walking route or a promise that every seat is available.

An English guide is already on the signs
Seoul's announcement says garden signs link by QR code to a smart guide in nine languages. English has both audio and text. The web guide uses the phone's language settings, so keep mobile data available and try a sign before committing to a long circuit.
The city also advertises Korean- and English-language programs and directs reservations to the official garden site. A published English program does not confirm a particular date's seat or that the booking accepts every overseas phone number. Independent QR exploration is the lower-commitment option if you do not need a host.
Arrive at Seoul Forest, not the October satellite venue
The organizer's directions identify Seoul Forest Station exits 3, 4 and 5 on the Suin–Bundang Line, or Ttukseom Station exits 7 and 8 on Line 2. Its estimates are two and eleven minutes on foot respectively; those are organizer estimates to the park, not measured times to an individual garden. Search 서울숲, 273 Ttukseom-ro, then use the garden names and the on-site map.
Maeheon Citizen's Forest is a separate October 1–27 venue at 99 Maeheon-ro in Seocho-gu. The three named gardens compared above are in Seoul Forest, so an October visitor seeking those works should still route to 서울숲. If Maeheon's separate program is the attraction, read its own venue page before routing; the shared festival name does not mean the two parks contain the same installations.
The city separates open garden access from participation programs advertised for 12:00–20:00. An older tourism listing gives 12:00–19:00. Use the selected program's current timetable rather than assigning either range to every garden, shop and guided activity.

Nearby options worth deciding on
Does the garden visit need a structured indoor pause, or would a further outdoor extension simply repeat the same kind of fatigue?
Seoul Forest is already an open-ended destination: the visitor can spend more time than planned moving between gardens, shade, facilities, and event zones. A nearby stop earns its place only if it solves a problem. The Waterworks Museum creates a bounded indoor chapter; the Hangang adds scenery but keeps the day outside and makes the turnaround point less obvious.
Choose the museum when you want contrast, historical context, and a defined visit that can be checked against opening hours. Choose the river when the weather is comfortable and the group genuinely wants more walking. Do not treat both as default completions. On a hot or wet day, shortening the garden route and leaving with energy is better planning than collecting one more pin.
Waterworks Museum
Bounded indoor contrast
KTO connects the museum to Korea's first water-purification plant and Seoul's modern waterworks history. The same record notes a Monday closure and reservation requirements for some experience programs, separating ordinary museum viewing from activities that cannot be assumed at the door.
Use this as the compact indoor counterweight to a long outdoor garden visit, especially when you want a defined stop rather than more open-ended walking.
Stop ruleDo not rely on it as a rain shelter until the museum confirms the current opening day, entry window, and any closure notice.
Hangang River
Open-ended scenic extension
KTO describes the Hangang as a broad leisure corridor of parks, cultural facilities, walking, cycling, and water activities—not one attraction with one entrance. The short API distance reaches the river environment, but the chosen path and turnaround point still determine the real walking cost.
Add the river only when the garden route still leaves energy for another exposed walking segment; it works better as a scenic extension than as a must-see checkpoint.
Stop ruleEnd at the garden when heat, rain, air quality, darkness, or fatigue makes the waterfront extension lower value.
